April Chamberlain Simpson is a problem solver who helps clients by combining experience with persuasive advocacy. A civil litigator, April concentrates her practice on professional negligence defense. Drawn to the courtroom early in her career, having spent four years as an Assistant District Attorney, April embraces the opportunity to use her skills to help others navigate difficult professional and personal challenges. April believes in a holistic approach to litigation, and is involved in all phases of cases from inception through trial.

April has extensive experience in complex medical malpractice defense litigation. Representing health care facilities and their employee physicians, nurses, and other health care providers, April is experienced in all aspects of professional negligence defense litigation. April provides case analysis and evaluation, including risk assessment, prepares pleadings, motions and briefs, identifies and works with experts on liability and damages issues, and represents clients at hearings, pre-trial conferences, depositions, trial and post-trial proceedings. April is equipped to handle detailed discovery, including issues relating to hospital policies, procedures, peer-review, patient safety, metadata, medical records, and electronic communications. With diverse subject matter exposure, April represents clients in the complete range of medical specialties. April has also represented clients in mediation and arbitration.  Additionally, April has defended licensed health care providers in investigations before the state licensure boards.  Adept at assimilating intricate details into the larger litigation picture, April is always prepared and driven to achieve positive outcomes for her clients.

April’s commitment to utilizing advocacy to help others also motivates her to maintain a dynamic family law practice. Drawing upon her organized and skilled approach to litigation, April counsels individuals involved in divorce, custody, and support matters. While she possesses the skills and experience to fully litigate domestic cases, April is aware that not every such dispute should be resolved inside a courtroom. April is a trained collaborative law practitioner, and engages in creative problem solving to empower her clients to focus on reaching agreements and amicable resolutions. Due to the nature of family law disputes, April recognizes that each situation is unique, and she is dedicated to proceeding in the manner appropriate for each case and client.

Whether April is representing an individual or advising a larger organization, her underlying fundamental goal is to assist her clients in achieving their desired outcome. April believes in the power of strong advocacy, and not only practices it, but is dedicated to fostering it in others as well.

April serves as the attorney advisor for the State College Area High School’s Mock Trial team through the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s High School Mock Trial Program. April has been an invited speaker, including for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s Trial of a Medical Malpractice Case program, and for various educational programs for health care facilities and providers regarding professional liability. April is also a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Civil Litigation Section, and served two terms on the PBA House of Delegates, which is the policy making body of the association.
